Quiet often I get to meet young men & women who are searching for jobs. At most times they also provide me a copy of their resume asking me to place it in my company’s human resource department so that they can be contacted for any job opportunity that might come. I almost every time ask them; what is the sole purpose of your resume? The answer that I get from most of them is; the purpose of a resume is to get you a job, which is absolutely WRONG! The whole sole purpose of your resume is to get an interview instead of getting you a job. This is a wrong perception that our youth needs to rectify.
Stating that a resume is there to capture your interviewer’s eye in the first 10-30 seconds of viewing it, here I am to tell you some basic and important tips of making a resume that will actually grab your interviewer’s attention and help you secure an interview. Now listed below are the objects that you need to tell in your resume:
· Personal information: Your personal information includes you name, detailed mailing address, e-mail, contact number.
· Objective: Objective is a reflection of your goals. In just a phrase your objective talks about the kind of person you are and what are you planning to achieve from this job you have applied on. Also the recruiter wants to see how you can benefit the company, which you show by phrasing your objective in a compelling way.
· Your experience: A listing of your experience in a simple chronological way works here. List down your work experience along with your work responsibilities described in bullets and the duration you have stayed at any company, all in different columns. Providing all this information in columns helps the recruiter to skim through them and gets to know more about you in limited time.
· After listing your work experience comes your educational qualifications listed in the same way, with the latest degree coming at top position.
In the end provide some information about the majors that you did, along with any other extra certificates or workshops that you have attended.
